The World Series of Major League Baseball is now underway! This year it’s the St. Louis Cardinals taking on

Texas Rangers in a battle for the top spot of the season. What better way to enjoy the games than to install free iPhone apps that’ll help you keep up with the action and have some fun while you’re at it!

MLB.com At Bat Lite

This free version of the official app for Major League Baseball works with the iPhone and iPod Touch and is jam-packed with lots of great features for the avid MLB fan. Breaking news, standings and schedules for your favorite teams are just the beginning. You also get player rosters and statistics to go along with it. Featured videos are also available.

On top of that, you can customize your device’s home screen to feature images from your favorite baseball team. If you’re lucky enough to have tickets to one of the World Series games, there’s also a check-in feature called At The Ballpark and a handful of social options to connect with other fans via Twitter and Facebook

SportsTap

Not exclusively a baseball app, SportsTap provides news on virtually any professional sport you can think up. That obviously includes baseball. This is a free but comprehensive app that offers detailed sports news, as well as player statistics and team schedules. There’s even an Alerts option that allows you to receive live updates directly to your device so you can follow the action no matter where you happen to be.

In this newest version of the app, MyTap has also been added, which lets you follow all of your favorite teams in one convenient location. MyTap is a subscription add-on service that costs $0.99 a month, but it well worth it for fans of multiple sports and teams.

Baseball Superstars 2011

If you’re itching to get into the action yourself, Baseball Superstars 2011 is a great option. 6 different modes, including My League Mode, Season Mode and Exhibition Mode, offer completely different perspectives to America’s beloved pastime. This game also has a lot of unique RPG elements to it that really make it stand out.

The physics of Baseball Superstars is pretty impressive. It’s also got some interesting visual angles depending on where your player is in the field at a given time and what he is doing. In addition, there are customization options available so you can choose which players you want to go up against or which scenarios you might want to encounter within the game. Match Play Mode also allows you to challenge other players who’ve previously defeated you.
