There are literally hundreds of Photoshop effects you can add to your picture but you probably think that most of them are too complicated. Well, you may be right: some Photoshop jobs are difficult, but there are many other simple tricks that can make your photos look gorgeous in just a few steps. Here’s one of them:

1. Open the photo you want to use. We chose this nice landscape.

2. Add a new layer and fill it in with white. Then, click on the “Add layer mask” button.

3. Now we have to select a special brush. Click on the Brush top button and then on the little arrow to the right. Select the “Thick Heavy Brushes” set and append it to your Brush menu.

4. Making sure the layer mask is active, select the Brush named “Flat Bristle” and start painting. As we’re using a layer mask, our painting strokes will reveal the photo below.

5. After some strokes, change your brush to the one immediately after (“Rough Flat Bristle”) and add some touches on the photo’s edges.

6. Then add a new layer to the image and fill it with blank. Click on the Filter > Texture > Texturizer menu and set options as shown.

7. Set this last layer’s blending to Multiply and reduce its opacity to 30%. In this way the original photo will be shown but there’ll be still traces of the canvas texture, adding a hand-painted effect to your picture.

8. Add some text or shadow to the whole composition if you want and you’re done!
