Softonic’s App of the Week highlights some of the coolest, most unique, and popular apps that have been released for Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac. This week, we have Periscope, Twitter’s live streaming app for the iPhone.

Periscope’s launch comes after the launch of Meerkat, an app that took tech journalism by storm. Sadly, it looks like Meerkat is on its way out as Twitter users are downloading Periscope in droves.

The app lets you live-stream what you’re doing publicly or only to specific friends. Viewers can engage by chatting with you and tapping the heart icon, which lets them show you love by filling your screen with disappearing hearts. Once you’re done with your life stream, you can view all the comments and analytics about the stream to see how well you did.

If you’re an iPhone user, Periscope is definitely an app worth checking out. If you don’t want to stream, there are tons of other people’s streams for you to watch.
