Due to my work as software editor I get to try lots of apps, and that includes Firefox extensions. Most of them stay just the necessary time to be properly tested, but sometimes I find really good extensions that I like to keep for daily use.
The last entry in my personal Firefox extensions ranking is Download Statusbar. This neat tool replaces the browser’s standard download system and offers extended functionality. It can be displayed as an icon at the bottom right corner or an unobtrusive statusbar that shows files being downloaded. From this bar, the extension also enables to directly rename files, launch them, scan them with your favorite anti-virus or open their containing folder.
Apart from that, I love the improved functionality for displaying a file’s source URL (very useful for my job) and the fact that my mouse doesn’t lose focus anymore as happened every time Firefox showed the “Downloads complete” notification.
