Purchase Gmail extra storageWhen Google launched Gmail with its 1 GB mailbox, we thought we would never need anything else. But you know the story: the more space you have, the bigger files you’re tempted to store. This is why we were relieved to see Gmail slowly starting to increase its capacity, up to the 2.8 GB offered up to now.

Today we’ve learned that Google plans to sell extra storage for those who still don’t have enough. This extra space is available not only for Gmail, but also for Picasa web albums and, according to Google, it will soon be shared by other tools like Google Docs and Spreadsheets as well. This means that you’ll be able to buy as many gigabytes as you need and freely use them across several applications.

Extra storage can be already purchased in different plans, starting at $20 a year for 6 more GB and ranging up to $500 for 250 GB.
