google talkIt’s been a long time in coming but Google have finally added group chats to the Google Talk Gadget. Unfortunately though, it’s still not available on Google Talk’s standalone client or the chat function within Gmail.

To initiate group chats, you simply start a conversation with a contact and then click the ‘Group Chat’ icon at the top of the conversation window. Note that if you try and invite someone who is using the Google Talk standalone client or Gmail into a group chat, they will be sent a link to initiate the conversation in the browser based Google Talk version.

This is a long awaited addition to Google Talk and the only question is, how come it took so long? Group conversations have been a part of chat clients such as MSN Live Messenger for years. Hopefully they will also add it to both the standalone and Gmail clients soon.
