Want to use a person’s WhatsApp profile picture as their contact image on your phone? Unfortunately, there’s no option built into WhatsApp for doing this. In fact, you can’t even save a WhatsApp profile picture from the app to your phone.

However, with a bit of trickery it is possible to save a friend’s WhatsApp profile picture to your phone then use this as your contact picture for that person. Here’s how you do it on an Android phone. It’s a similar process for iPhone but remember that to make a screen capture on an iPhone you need to hold the center button and power button simultaneously.

Set a WhatsApp profile picture as a contact picture on your phone

1. You can load up a full size version of a contact’s WhatsApp profile image simply by clicking on their name in the chat window.

2. Now take a screenshot of the image by pressing the Power and Volume down buttons simultaneously on your device. This will only work if you have version 4.0 or higher of the Android operating system.

3. Quit out of WhatsApp and open the Android contacts app. Tap the name of the contact you wish to add the picture to and choose ‘Edit’ from the options menu.

4. Now tap on the person’s profile image (or the silhouette) and tap 'Choose photo from Gallery'. Select the image you just captured from your Screenshots folder.

5. You can now crop the WhatsApp profile picture that you took so that it fits the profile picture aspect. Do this by holding and dragging the lines of the square. When you’re done, click OK.

6. Your friend’s WhatsApp profile picture will now be set as their contact photo on your phone.

Wrap-up

That's all there is to saving your WhatsApp profile pictures to your phone. Hopefully this guide has helped you clean up your contacts list a bit with contact profile pictures.

How ridiculous to do this with a supposedly "Smartphone" ? Android and Whatsapp must wrap their heads together.

There is a better trick guys for that! If your phone doeasnt do screen capture this will be very useful. When you load a profile picture as of step 1. You notice that you dont have to load the picture again even if you restart your phone....this means that the picture was saved somewhere in your SD!! Open your file browser and follow the path: sdcard:/WhatsApp/Profile Pictures You will be suprised that all the profile photos you have loaded so far have been saved here! If u found this helpful say thanks ! >> jbkinyua@gmail.com

Continued...Now you can create a folder on the root of your sd card and copy or move the pictures in it so that they appear as an album in your gallery! When I opened a photo from the gallery however and clicked the option for 'Set As' it didnt give me the set as contact id or wallpaper. I found a way around tht: You do step 3- open contacts and edit and then choose the picture from the gallery. That works! If u found this helpful say thanks ! >> jbkinyua@gmail.com

For Android users : Just Navigate to 'Whatsapp' installation folder using 'File Manager' or 'My Files' and locate the 'Profile pictures' folder and save it in your gallery for easy access.

Note : The pictures will only appear in the Profile Pictures folder if you have opened(viewed) the contact's picture in Whatsapp at least once.

I hate the fact that you can't take people's profile picture and block last seen. Whatsapp doesn't rate android phones!

I used this app to make the process easier. Whatsapp contact photo. It just automatically links the profile picture once you click on Whatsapp profile pick.

The poster's advice is erroneous. Yes, you CAN save a profile photo from WhatsApp. If you are looking at it, then it's already on your device!

On any version of Android: 1. Open My Files 2. Navigate to /WhatsApp/Profile Pictures/ 3. Locate the picture you want (don't open it) 4. In the current list view, long tap on the picture to bring up a menu 5. Choose Copy 6. Navigate to /ScreenCapture/ (or wherever else you want to put it) 7. Choose "Paste here" at the bottom

Cons: - May take you 10 seconds longer.

Pros: - You get the original, highest quality photo that the WhatsApp user himself uploaded. - No need to crop out other screen elements from the screenshot.

On an iPhone I remember it being as easy as long tapping on the enlarged WhatsApp profile photo for a Save Photo option.

After viewing the profile picture just use an Android file browser to navigate to

    /mnt/sdcard/WhatsApp/Profile Pictures

You'll find the profile pictures there.
