Google Reader features two ways to mark blog posts in your daily RSS readings. One is adding a star to them, which creates a handy personal list where you can save interesting articles for later reading or future reference. The other one is the sharing function, which enables you to create a feed of shared items that Google Reader turns into a public self-generated web page or a gadget that you can add to your own blog.

However, sometimes you find a post that is both interesting and worth sharing. Where should you save it then, in Starred items or in Shared items? Should you make two parallel lists? Wouldn’t it make more sense to simply share all the interesting posts you read? No more worries. Google Reader enables you to share your Starred items in exactly the same way as the Shared items themselves. You only need to configure its settings as shown below.

First, enter Google Reader settings menu by clicking on the Settings label.

Then click on the Tags tab, tick “Your starred items” and change the sharing option to “Public”.

You’ll have immediate access to several links that enable you to view the public web page that Google generates with your marked posts, email the link for your starred items feed and use them as a gadget for your personal web page or blog.
