iOS 7, the new mobile operating system from Apple, is now available for download. Here, we explain how to update your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 7.

To begin with, make sure that your device is compatible with iOS 7. You will find the official list of compatible devices from Apple below:

How to upgrade to iOS 7

Devices older than the 5th generation iPod touch, iPhone 3GS, or the 1st generation iPad won’t be able to get the iOS 7 update.

Direct upgrade from the iPhone/iPad or iPod Touch

You can update your iDevice without connecting to a computer quite easily.

1. Go to Setup  > General > Software update. When the update is available, you will see the version as well as a ‘Download’ option.
2. Hit the buttons to download and ‘Install Now’ for the new operating system to be automatically installed.

Update from iTunes

If you don’t want to or don’t have the connection for a wireless update, you can also update to iOS 7 using iTunes. To update your phone from iTunes, simply connect your iDevice to your computer.

1. Connect the USB cable to your device and your computer.

2. iTunes should open automatically. Otherwise, open it manually.

3. Click on the button representing your device that appears at the top right of the iTunes window.

4. Click ‘Find Updates’.

5. If the update is available, a message will be displayed. Click Download and install.

6. iTunes will make a copy of the contents on your device and install iOS 7.
