A recent rumor regarding the not-yet-released iPhone 7 indicates that we could be saying “goodbye” to WiFi and “hello!” to new advanced technology. A Twitter user named Chase Fromm has been exploring the code of iOS 9.1 in search of information regarding the future of Apple devices, and has stumbled upon a mention of something called “LiFi Capability”.

LiFi is an evolution of WiFi transmitted using intelligent LED lights. It may sound a bit science- fiction but this technology is actually a reality and has the potential to transmit information 100 times faster than a WiFi connection.

LiFi was discovered by Professor Harald Haas of the University of Edinburgh. As it’s still in the early stages of development, the date of when we can expect to see it available to us is still yet unknown.
