KMPlayer_iconKMPlayer is one of the most popular Windows media players out there and for good reason. It supports plenty of audio and video codecs like all the other media players out there but what does KMPlayer do to seprate itself from the rest of the pack like VLC Media player, UMPlayer, and GOM Player? In its latest iteration, KMPlayer introduced 3D features. Not only can you stream 3D content but you can turn your 2D content into 3D. Here's how:

When launching KMPlayer, you will be greeted by a bunch of tiles, one of which touts its 3D capability. Clicking on that will bring you to the "3D Movie Plus" section which has a bunch of different 3D trailers for you to stream.

KMPlayer 3D [small]

Streaming 3D trailers in HD is a very slow affair, even with our quick connection. Once everything is buffered, you will be greeted with a 3D image that you can use regular anaglyph 3D glasses (red and blue). This type of 3D is much less impressive than the active shutter technology seen on TVs today but that requires a 3D capable TV and a set of expensive 3D glasses.

KMPlayer Disney [small]

You can even turn your normal 2D video files into 3D with a click of a button on the bottom left. Videos were cropped and stretched out during testing so this is more of a gimmick at the moment. Users can mess with the 3D settings by choosing the type of 3D to use in the menu.

KMPlayer 3D options [small]

While it's cool having 3D, we can't see ourselves using this feature often. It is a fun gimmick but image quality and color reproduction really suffer when using anaglyph 3D filters. If you don't want to spend thousands on a new 3D capable monitor or TV, then give KMPlayer's 3D features a try. It's definitely the cheapest way to experience some z-depth with your video.

where is the 2D to 3D conversion in this player? seems this is a wrong information in this article since there is none! You can only play 3D if the original video is already shot in 3D - this video needs to be either half side-by-side or half top/bottom! By the way: in the player the red-green analyph aoutputs (except the first one) are no red-green but red-cyan (yes thats a big difference!)

You can use all kind of glasses and choose the 3D style you want from the List. You also don't need a 3D screen. This is an EXCELLENT post by Lewis Leong :-)

To access the 3D options, Right click on the KMPlayer window/ 3D screen Controls, and choose the Side by Side -> 2D, from the drop down list.

This option is on the Last Version of KMPlayer 3.4.9.59 KMP Plus.
