Safari iconAs part of an action-packed keynote address at the WWDC, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has announced that the increasingly popular Mac OS web browser, Safari, is now available for Microsoft Windows. Launching in open beta today, the latest version of Safari includes a number of new features, including a new functionality for automatically creating widgets from web page elements. It’s understood that this feature will also work with Windows. Another new feature is advanced tab dragging, which even allows for tabs to be dragged off into their own new windows.

Jobs ran a couple of benchmarking tests which showed Safari running twice as fast as Internet Explorer on a Windows machine. He emphasised Apple’s previous success in porting iTunes to Windows, and is clearly very confident that Safari can be a huge success. Safari currently enjoys around 5% of market share, behind Firefox’s 15% and IE’s 78%. Download the public beta now from Softonic.
