There’s a new “smartphone” that’s recently been circulating the internet, and it couldn’t be further away from the conventional devices we’re used to seeing.

Costing around $1,300 (twice the price of an iPhone 6 Plus), meet “RoBoHoN” – a small and highly intelligent robot whose developers believe could one day replace our smartphones. We’re not convinced.

Standing at just 20cm tall, this Japanese-made “toy” has the ability to read your messages, make calls (you talk into its feet), and can even walk and dance (actually quite well) upon request.

RoBoHon runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, and comes with a 2-inch screen which you can imagine is not particularly useful). It also features a 8MP camera, 3G and LTE connectivity, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM as well as a Snapdragon processor.

It’s clear that this device is more of a novelty than an actual smartphone that could one day be taken seriously. Although it may not be the future of smartphones, it’s certainly something cool to have lying around the house, just in case you get very, very bored.

The device is said to go on sale in Japan next month, and the company has announced that it plans to ship overseas. Could you be tempted?
