Firefox tab tipsA while ago the guys at Lifehacker published a list with some of the most useful tab managing techniques in Firefox that could be accomplished without having to install any extensions. Some of them were new to me, but I realized that I knew some other tips that weren’t featured in that list. This is why I though it would be a good idea to redo the list and include all those tips that can make your daily web browsing more comfortable and productive. Feel free to add your own personal tab tricks in comments!

  • First of all, remember tabs have a context menu. Right click on any of them and you’ll see many interesting options available like reloading all tabs, bookmark a tab or closing all tabs except the one you’re visiting.
  • There are two ways to browse tabs: you can press Ctrl+Tab to move between them or Ctrl plus a number to open the tab that occupies that position. If tabs have expanded over the window’s limits, hover the mouse and use the wheel to move between them.
  • A basic keyboard shortcut you should memorize: Ctrl+T opens a new tab.
  • Tabs can be rearranged in the tabbar. Simply grab a tab with the mouse, drag it to the desired position and drop it there.
  • Just closed a tab by mistake? No worries: reopen it with Ctrl+Shift+T or simply Ctrl+F12.
  • Mousewheel clicks can also work with tabs. Click on a link and it will open in the background. Click on any tab and it will close without showing up (perfect for closing embarrassing web pages).
  • You can easily restore your tab session without any extension: go to Tools > Options and in the Startup area, select “Show my window and tabs from last time”.
  • Would you like to have several home pages? Simply enter their URL in the home page field separated by the | symbol. Another way is to open up all the web pages you’d like to use, go to Tools > Options and click on the “Use current pages” in the Startup settings.
