Google confirmed the release date of Android 5.0 Lollipop today in a note to developers. Users with Nexus devices can expect to receive the update starting November 3rd. If you don’t have a Nexus device, check our post about when to expect Lollipop on your device.

We long expected an early November release date as it coincides with Google’s release of its new Nexus 9 tablet, which comes pre-installed with Lollipop.

App developers already have access to the Android Lollipop software development kit so there should be a slew of updated apps for the new operating system coming soon.

Android Lollipop brings a new look to Android with new animations and flat, colorful design. There’s also new, smarter notifications that you can reply to from the lock screen. Notifications will also be organized by how often you use the app instead of chronological order.

UPDATE: Droid Life is reporting that the note to developers is nothing new and does not confirm Lollipop’s release date. Looking at the blog post again, Google does not explicitly state when Nexus devices will get the update, only that the Nexus 9 will be the first device with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Bummer. While it’s still possible for Google to release the update on November 3rd, we’re not holding our breath. Google promised to bring the update to Nexus devices “in a few weeks” so we should be seeing it in early to mid-November.
