More details about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare have emerged from GameInformer. Developer Sledghammer games explains how its game is a fresh start for the series.
Set in 2052, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sees you play as Private Mitchell, a US Marine who is approached by private security firm Atlas Corporation. By 2052, this corporation has taken much of the responsibility for reconstruction and peacekeeping around the world, and it is more advanced and better armed than the military.
Unlike previous Call of Duty games, you’ll play as Mitchell throughout the single player campaign instead of jumping between different characters.
Sledgehammer Games was started by a duo responsible for the first Dead Space game, and were originally developing a third person Call of Duty game. However, Advanced Warfare will be a first person game, and the team has been making the FPS Duty: Advanced Warfare for three years, the first to get this much time.
Previously, there were two Call of Duty developers, working on a two year schedule. Activision hopes for better, and more innovative games from this longer development schedule.

While Sledgehammer is trying to make its mark with a different take on storytelling compared to recent games, this is still Call of Duty, and the over the top action looks to be in place. Early in the game there is an event described as like a ‘global 9/11’, and you’ll find yourself in San Franscisco trying to thwart a terrorist attack which results in the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
The futuristic setting gives you a powerful exoskeleton, and augmented reality visor. There will also be hover bikes, super jumps, cloaking abilities, variable grenades and more. While nothing has been revealed about the multiplayer part of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, these new weapons should help it compete with fresh multiplayer games like Titanfall.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released in November 2014 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Previous generation consoles will also get the game, but it’s being developed by another studio.
