Google Drive offers a great way to make secure copies, in the cloud, of all our most important and personal files. Google would like it to go further than this, however, and on the 28th June Google will launch Backup and Sync, a tool that will make secure backups of everything on your PC (both windows and Mac) to avoid anything getting lost in the future.

The idea is that Backup and Sync will help you avoid accidental loss of your files whilst also giving you the ability to access all of your files no matter where you are in the world. Backup and Sync is a good response from Google to last month’s Ransomware crisis as backing up your data is an important safety step to take if you want to protect yourself from the growing ransomware threat.

Google Drive is a free service offered by Google but only in part. The first 15GB are free but then after that you’ll have to pay and there are a number of pricing plans starting at $1.99 a month for 100GB.

Google doesn’t recommend Backup and Sync for companies only individuals. For companies Google has the new solution called Drive File Stream, which will launch at the end of the year for G Suite Basic, Business, Enterprise, Education and Nonprofit clients.
