Google Maps and SymbianGoogle has launched a free, native, Symbian C++ edition of its popular Maps application. The program, which is compatible with S60 3rd Edition phones from Nokia, offers a series of improvements on previous versions thanks to its native support under Symbian C++.

Antony Edwards, the VP of Developer Product Marketing for Symbian said of the news:

Native Google Maps on Symbian OS is an excellent example of how established brands can easily create compelling mobile experiences without compromising on brand consistency, features or usability… With a richer user experience, the new native Symbian C++ version of Google Maps for mobile will help generate increased revenues for operators, content owners, phone vendors and third party location services software developers.

The software, which is free to download on compatible mobile phones, looks great and works exceptionally quickly. In fact, it has become a truly useful tool which I can certainly see myself using in the future! The new features include detailed directions, integrated search results, easily movable maps and satellite imagery – pretty much everything you could need.
