We learnt about Google Drive Backup and Sync last month and the service has now come online. Backup and Sync allows you to automatically make secure backups of everything on your Windows or Mac. As we mentioned last month, backing up your files is one of the most important steps you need to take to protect yourself against ransomware demands.
7 TIPS TO EASILY FIGHT THE RANSOMWARE THREAT
With Google Drive you get 15GB of storage for free and occasionally you’ll be given the option to earn 2GB more by filling out surveys for Google. This doesn’t happen too often, however, and if you think you’re going to need more storage space you’ll have to pay. You can get 100GB for $20 a year but if you want to backup your entire hard drive you’ll need to pay $100 a year for 1TB of storage or $100 a month for 10TB.
If you do want to backup your entire hard drive there are much cheaper backup services available. Blackbaze allow you unlimited storage for backing up your drive and the service only costs $50 a year. Carbonite and Crashplan offer similar services for around $59 a year..
If you’re worried about Ransomware or you think it’d be prudent to keep backups of all your files then Backup and Sync is a solid option. If you’re not brand loyal to Google, however, there is a lot of money to be saved by using one of the other services we’ve mentioned.
