The World Cup being in Brazil means it’s a bit easier for us on the same side of the world to watch in prime time. Still, that doesn’t mean you’ll have the time to sit in front of the couch and watch every game.

The World Cup will be broadcast in the US on ESPN and ABC, as well as in Spanish on Univision. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to watch the games online or on mobile devices, getting you in on all the action without gluing yourself to the couch.

Live streaming

ESPN will be live broadcasting all World Cup games. You can stream all games online from the Watch ESPN website, or use the Watch ESPN app for iOS and Android to watch games on mobile, although you’ll need a paid subscription to the channel in order to stream the games away from the TV. There are also native apps for Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and streaming via Chromecast.

ESPN FC

World cup games are also being broadcast on ABC, and similar to Watch ESPN, you’ll be able to live stream games with the Watch ABC app for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and Windows Phone, as long as you have a paid TV subscription at home.

If you’re looking to skimp and watch the games for free, you can stream online from Spanish-language broadcaster Univision (there’s also an Android and iOS app). The caveat? For one, if you haven’t brushed up on your Spanish lately, you may have trouble following the games. The other is that every game from the quarterfinals onwards will require a paid TV subscription with your local cable provider.

Radio streaming

At a time when HD is center stage, it’s easy to forget about the classic radio broadcast, a great way to inconspicuously ‘watch’ World Cup games. While there’s an ESPN Radio app, TuneIn Radio is probably your best option for streaming games via radio.

TuneIn Radio

You can have access to radio stations from across the globe, and TuneIn’s available on multiple platforms, including Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. ESPN Radio has a channel in TuneIn Radio, but don’t limit yourself: BBC Radio 5 is another great option for listening to games. With radio streaming, the sky’s really the limit.

Highlights and updates

If you want to relive the best goals, tackles, or penalties, the FIFATV YouTube channel will give you all the best video highlights from every game, as well as some of the best in the history of the tournament.

FIFA TV on YouTube

ESPN also offers a specific app for soccer and World Cup coverage with the ESPN FC Soccer & World Cup app for iOS and Android. While it doesn’t live stream games, it’ll help you get all the info you need in between matches, video highlights, and game analysis from experts.

Realistically, you won’t be able to watch every single World Cup game, but you can get a lot closer to the action with these apps.
