With an ever increasing number of web apps, most of our writing today is done online. Emails, blog posts, web forms… it’s all text that needs to be revised, just like you do with the spellchecker on any text processor. But how do you spell-check online text?

The answer is easy, especially if you use Firefox. Chances are that you already have a built-in dictionary in the browser to check English language, which can be easily enabled by right clicking on any form and selecting Spell check this field.

If you don’t see that option – or if you need to install extra dictionaries for other languages – simply right click on any online form and go to Languages > Add dictionaries… This option will open up a special page on the Mozilla website from which you can download extra dictionaries and language packs.

These dictionaries work as extensions, and are installed in exactly the same way. They’ll allow you to revise and correct any text you write online as you type, just like you do with desktop text processing software.
