Until now, you could only demo Minecraft by playing the web-based Classic version, without many of the features the full game now has. With today’s version 1.3.1, you can now try the game for five ‘in-game’ days. That’s enough to get a feel for Minecraft, and you’ll know at the end if you want to buy an account or not.

Lots more has been added in this update: read on to find out more.

A neat feature for new players is the optional ‘bonus chest‘. When activated, you will find a treasure chest of essentials near where you begin the game. This means you don’t have the immediate pressure of finding resources to survive your first night (if you do want to try the hard way, read my guide).

Other notable additions to Minecraft are:

  • Cocoa Beans
  • An ‘Ender Chest’, which is like ‘cloud storage’ in Minecraft!
  • Tripwire
  • Trading with villagers
  • Enchantment orbs given for tasks other than killing monsters
  • Better multiplayer and server options
  • Adventure mode: You can now create ‘adventures’ for other players to play

Minecraft if available for Windows and Mac.
