Screenshots of the new Outlook for Mac 16 leaked this week, showing off a completely overhauled app. Today, Microsoft took the wraps off the new version of Outlook for Mac by releasing it to its Office 365 customers.
New in Outlook for Mac 16 are performance and reliability improvements. I’ve been using Office 2011 for Mac for years now and Outlook has always been laggy and unstable at times. This update should fix all these issues.
The interface of the app has been revamped as well, featuring OS X Yosemite’s translucency. There’s also improved scrolling and speed when switching between different parts of the ribbon interface.
Last but not least, Microsoft promises Office for Mac 16 will sync with Exchange much faster. Real-time email delivery is also enabled for Office 365 email.
Microsoft has historically released updates to its Office products together so it’s odd to see the company release Outlook by itself. The company is still working on updating Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote for Mac and plans to release them in “the second half of 2015.” Eager users can try out a public beta in the first half of 2015.
