Just when you think you’ve found the perfect social network, another one crops up that seems even better and you just have to join. If this sounds like you, you’ve probably got your hand in half a dozen or more different social sites by now. Juggling then can get confusing pretty quickly!
Good thing there’s Yoono. Similar in nature to HootSuite, in that it supports multiple social networking sites, and Echofon, in that it’s a client that’s available on a variety of different platforms, Yoono is a great organizational tool to keep track of all your friends feeds in one place.
First, Yoono supports a lot of the most popular social networks, like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, AIM, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. This means that if you have an account with any of these services, you’ll be able to access them all through Yoono. This is what makes it similar to HootSuite, except Yoono takes it a step further by allowing you to chat with friends on services like AIM, as well as checking updates on Facebook and other social networking feeds.
In addition, Yoono is available cross-OS, just like Echofon, meaning Mac users can get in on the fun. There’s a desktop version for both Mac and Windows, as well as a Firefox browser extension for users who prefer to have everything in a sidebar while they’re browsing the web. iPhone users can also download the app for their phone.
Of course, there are limitations to the service, in that any clickthroughs to get to a friend’s profile, for example, will open in a new browser window, as opposed to the app itself.
For simple friend feed browsing and responding, and as an application to chat with friends on the fly though, Yoono provides a great alternative for people who aren’t satisfied with other applications out there.
