Privacy is one of the hot topics of our age. Ever since a guy from Harvard cottoned onto the fact that we all want to know what is going on in each other’s lives and then subsequently declared privacy a dead concept, what we keep to ourselves has been under constant attack. We’re told how to keep the important things private all the time but there might be one fatal loophole in our privacy defenses. Free Pizza!
In a report published by MIT, researchers discovered that a whopping 98% of students gave away their friends email for the promise of free pizza. That is a lot but I have to admit right now that I would give my own email address away 100% of the time for free pizza. I mean just think about it. You put your email address into the dominoes website anyway.
The real finding from the study was that most people over exaggerate how important their data privacy is to them. Another report claimed that 74% of Americans said that it was very important to stay in control of who can obtain their information. There clearly is an incompatibility between the figures so we’re obviously going to go with the one that says people will get free pizza.
